👨‍🍳 Cooking Instructions

Full recipe instructions for preparing Tie guan yin

🔥 Prep

  • Measure 1 tsp Tie guan yin tea leaves into a small bowl.
  • Measure 200 ml fresh cold water in a measuring cup or kettle.

🔥 Cook

  • 1. Place the 200 ml of water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • 2. Once boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and let the water cool to ≈90°C (about 30 seconds off boil) to avoid scalding the delicate oolong leaves.
  • 3. Add the measured 1 tsp Tie guan yin leaves to the hot water.
  • 4. Cover the saucepan and steep the tea for 2–3 minutes (adjust to taste; for a stronger aroma, steep up to 4 minutes).
  • 5. After steeping, strain the tea into a cup using a fine mesh strainer or tea infuser, discarding the leaves.
  • 6. Optionally, give the tea a gentle swirl to release any remaining aroma before serving.

🔥 Serve

  • Serve the Tie guan yin hot in a pre-warmed teacup to appreciate its floral notes.
  • Pair with light Chinese pastries such as almond cookies or mooncakes, or enjoy plain as a refreshing palate cleanser.
